Do you ever wonder how a choreographer creates a ballet? Are you curious about the methods composers use to write music for dance? Do you like to hear musicians speak about performance? Do you love to hear dancers talk about and demonstrate how they approach a role? Does your passion for NYCB make you hungry for more in-depth experiences? Then make sure to join us in the magnificent David H. Koch Theater for these 90-minute seminars during the 2008 season, when NYCB's artists as well as honored alumni will take the stage to explore and converse about their art.

Mon. Jan. 12   NYCB = NEW CHOREOGRAPHY:  A discussion with the international choreographers presenting new works this winter season (Lee, Barak). Learn about their backgrounds, inspirations, musical choices, and featured dancers.  We will also learn more about the Nureyev Foundation grant for new choreography.

Panelists include: Melissa Barak, Douglas Lee, Ashley Bouder, Sara Mearns and Amar Ramasar.

Place:  NYST Auditorium 6 - 7:30 PM       Admission $5

Mon.  Jan.  26  A TRIBUTE TO SAB: Lincoln Kirstein and George Balanchine transformed dance in America when they founded the School of American Ballet in 1934.  This tribute will highlight the unique artistic association between Balanchine's school and Company by exploring the ways in which their shared aesthetic has been passed on over time from teacher to student to dancer and back to teacher.  Panelists will be those dancers who trained at SAB and now teach there, as well as a corps member who made the transition from student to a professional career with New York City Ballet.

Mon. May 18    NYCB "ON STAGE":  A discussion featuring the "new" behind the scenes teams who are mounting the performances on stage.  Meet the staff responsible for getting the stage ready for ballet and running the show.  We will also explore and learn about the process of creating and maintaining costumes for NYCB.

Place: NYST 6 - 7:30 PM   Admission; $5
free for Guild members
